So, one of the movies I have been obsessed with recently is “Pitch Perfect.” Here’s a quick back story: Beca (Anna Kendrick) is a girl who’d rather create music, and listen to what’s coming out of her headphones, rather than pay attention to what’s going on in the world around her. Arriving at her new college, Barden University, she feels resentful to be there because she really is an aspiring DJ, but is attending college at her dad’s insistence. She finds herself not right for any clique, but is muscled into an all girls a cappella group called The Barden Bellas by an insistent member. This clique is one she never would have picked on her own, and stretches her to her limits at times. Alongside all sorts of girls, with multiple personalities, the only thing they all have in common is how good they sound when they sing together. Especially when being successful rides on them returning to the national finals, where the previous year a serious incident occurred that almost ruined The Bellas.
When Beca takes, well more like forces, this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, with songs from this century, they fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of collegiate a cappella. This winds up being either the coolest thing they’ve ever done or the most insane, and in fact it becomes a little bit of both.
“Pitch Perfect” is loaded with new takes on old music favorites, down to current day hits that are seamlessly mixed together, mashed-up and arranged like you’ve never heard before. It also boasts an awesome cast including the hilarious Rebel Wilson, Brittney Snow, and Anna Kamp. You can’t go wrong with this flick. I would say it sways towards being a chick flick, but there is plenty of humor that guys could find in it as well. In fact back when I was in physical therapy my male physical therapist recommended it. So many amazing one liners this film provides, and they easily stick in your brain and make you chuckle even after the film is over. I actually didn’t even recognize Anna Kendrick when I first watched this. I know her as the somewhat snotty and uptight friend, Jessica, to Bella in the “Twilight Saga” movies. Who knew she has pipes like she does! At the end of the post I’ll put a link for her official music video titled “Cups.” The song is featured in the film with Kendrick singing only accompanied by a plastic cup. And don’t forget the burrito bombing, a must see! So I highly recommend this flick, and am giving it 4 1/2 stars. So go check it out, it’s aca-awesome!
