Relaxation, Come to Me!

Even though I have been stuck in bed with an injured knee, you’d think I’d be relaxed, but not so. With so much free time, a lot of it is spent fearing and going over all the stresses in my life, a horror movie playing through my head. Injuring my knee in and of itself is a major stressor since it put a damper on me finding work for the time being. I am looking at a minimum recovery time of 6-8 weeks. My orthopedist stressed the word “minimum.” So for the time being I could use some relaxation. Where do I find relaxation? In writing these blogs, taking naps with the heating pad on my stiff neck, watching my favorite TV shows and movies, reading, and enjoying a hot cup of tea or coffee. After finishing this blog I think a nap is in order, read some of my book, watch some TV, and try and tune out the fears parading through my brain.

So here are some tranquil pictures, hopefully seeing them may induce some peace and relaxation?

How can you not find a baby sleeping with puppies not cute and relaxing?

Music+Sunshine+ A smile= happiness and peace of mind

So, one of the movies I have been obsessed with recently is “Pitch Perfect.” Here’s a quick back story: Beca (Anna Kendrick) is a girl who’d rather create music, and listen to what’s coming out of her headphones, rather than pay attention to what’s going on in the world around her. Arriving at her new college, Barden University, she feels resentful to be there because she really is an aspiring DJ, but is attending college at her dad’s insistence. She finds herself not right for any clique, but is muscled into an all girls a cappella group called The Barden Bellas by an insistent member. This clique is one she never would have picked on her own, and stretches her to her limits at times. Alongside all sorts of girls, with multiple personalities, the only thing they all have in common is how good they sound when they sing together. Especially when being successful rides on them returning to the national finals, where the previous year a serious incident occurred that almost ruined The Bellas.

When Beca takes, well more like forces, this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, with songs from this century, they fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of collegiate a cappella. This winds up being either the coolest thing they’ve ever done or the most insane, and in fact it becomes a little bit of both.

“Pitch Perfect” is loaded with new takes on old music favorites, down to current day hits that are seamlessly mixed together, mashed-up and arranged like you’ve never heard before. It also boasts an awesome cast including the hilarious Rebel Wilson, Brittney Snow, and Anna Kamp. You can’t go wrong with this flick. I would say it sways towards being a chick flick, but there is plenty of humor that guys could find in it as well. In fact back when I was in physical therapy my male physical therapist recommended it. So many amazing one liners this film provides, and they easily stick in your brain and make you chuckle even after the film is over. I actually didn’t even recognize Anna Kendrick when I first watched this. I know her as the somewhat snotty and uptight friend, Jessica, to Bella in the “Twilight Saga” movies. Who knew she has pipes like she does! At the end of the post I’ll put a link for her official music video titled “Cups.” The song is featured in the film with Kendrick singing only accompanied by a plastic cup. And don’t forget the burrito bombing, a must see!  So I highly recommend this flick, and am giving it 4 1/2 stars. So go check it out, it’s aca-awesome!

Do You Tattoo?

So for a long time I have been thinking of getting a tattoo. It is still far off since I need to actually find a good paying job first, that as you can guess, is what is most important now. But this is fun to think and plan about. I am sure I want one, but just not sure where, or of what. I find Pinterest to have great ideas. I guess you shouldn’t even get me started about Pinterest, talk about major addiction, especially since I’m stuck in bed. I have always struggled with the permanence issue of tattoos, but if I get one somewhere subtle, and where I won’t regret it, I think I will be fine. My friend (you know who you are lady!) has two very neat tattoos, and I think I can thank her for planting the seed that tattoos can be awesome. Oh, yes, there is the permanence issue, but what about the pain issue? Me+Pain=wussy. That’s what I worry most about. I look at designs that would be quick, and easy. Yet the ornate, neat ones call to me. So I will show you some of my ideas. Tell me what you think. Which one is your favorite, 1,2,3,4 or 5?

1. Feather shoulder tattoo

2. Bird foot tattoo

3. Ankle bow tattoos (LOVE these, but the time and pain…)

4. Dandelion and bird shoulder tattoo

5. “Count every beautiful thing” shoulder tattoo with rose outlines (again LOVE, but time and pain…)

My Nose is Burried in a Book, is Yours?

So I have been housebound since last Tuesday, some ice on the sidewalk was not so kind to me. I have eagerly been waiting for Monday’s arrival so I could go run errands with my mom. Mind you they aren’t particularly fun errands, changing my car insurance over, and some other non-thrilling stops. But I longed for the outside air on my face, and to breath in the cool Colorado spring air that has been calling to me from my bedroom window.  A little over dramatic I know, but I was that desperate. Being housebound for so long makes one crazy.

My time spent at home so far has been surrounded around reading books, and watching “Pretty Little Liars” on my Kindle. The shows are based on a series of books by Sara Shepard. They are teen mysteries, but I find it fun to read teen novels once in awhile. They are quick reads, and some still have interesting plots and are well written and can appeal to adults. I’m glad I have had a huge stack of books to tide me over at home. I actually probably have too many books, but I ask, is that possible for an avid reader, and librarian? I will finish the first “Pretty Little Liars” book today. Then on to the next in the series, or maybe mix it up and read a different book. I probably should finish the Julie Garwood novel I have been reading on my Kindle. I’ve been stuck at 69% done for months, ha ha. I have so many other books to read, I don’t know where to start!

So while I bury my nose in my pile of books, here’s some book thoughts for you!

What are you reading?

Color Contemplation

So, I constantly go back and forth on what my favorite color is. If you looked at my wardrobe, you’d say bright colors, or black. Those are my go to clothing colors, but not my favorite color. My previous favorite color, jade green. I think now though I am switching to Tiffany blue. Not just because it is associated with the amazing jewelry company, who makes gorgeous lust worthy bling that makes woman swoon. It’s simply because I like it, no ulterior motives I swear!

What’s your favorite color?

Saturday Words of Wisdom

I have been having a particularly bad week. Just lots of overwhelming, and downright crappy stuff I have to deal with. So I figured a pick me up would be good, so I scoured the internet for some words that could be some comfort. Granted they are only words, but remember words can ultimately change the way you think and feel. Happy Saturday! Hope you all have fun plans for the weekend. Mine involves lots of rest. So movies, books, and naps it is!

But how I have really been feeling this week… I guess I can try and look at it in a funny light even though it isn’t!

What are your weekend plans?

My Top 5 Obsessions of the Moment

1. Pretty Little Liars. I am addicted to this show! I have been watching it on my Kindle, and am on my second way through watching the episodes. I also started reading the books the show is based on. I guess I am regressing back to my teens…

2.Property Brothers. HGTV is my go to channel right now. I hardly watch anything else on TV. I must ask how can you go wrong with a show with two hot identical twins buying and renovating houses? The problem is I can’t decide which one I think is cuter. The sort of uptight Drew who does have a wicked sense of humor and is a realtor, or Jonathan who is an illusionist and a contractor who looks good in a tool belt? Who would you choose?

3. Income Property. Another HGTV show that I am in love with. Scott McGillivrary is just a plain nice guy, helping people buy and renovate a home to make an income property. Just say’in nobody looks better in a tool belt.

4. My Kindle Fire HD. I so far have enjoyed watching TV shows, and movies on my Kindle more then I have watched movies on the TV right in front of me. Part of it is since I am living with two other people and sometimes quiet is necessary, I can use headphones with my Kindle. In fact the Pretty Little Liars I have been watching has all been on my Kindle, and I am watching Love and Other Drugs right now, with my Kindle sitting right next to me on my bed. I love its portability too. I can take it downstairs with its stand and watch a TV episode while I cook. Plus, all my books, music, and awesome useful apps, such as Netflix which I just started using are on it. One word. Awesome.

5. Shoveling snow not a fun obsession, but with 23 inches accumulated so far, shoveling is a fact of life. But here’s to staying cozy and warm in this weather. The silver car is mine. Not looking forward to un-burying it for the third time. It’s been snowing since Monday night. Off and on yesterday. And like this all day today so far. The school district who notoriously won’t close for snow has closed all public schools the last two days. All city offices closed, the Sheriffs office even! The town is in a state of emergency. Crazy Colorado springtime weather! Kinda glad I can stay at home and enjoy the snow from the window.
